NC turns 67
All eyes and ears were focused on the whole NCnian community as the school celebrated its 67th Foundation Week on September 16-20, 2008 with the theme “Postmodernism: NC’s Grand Narrative at 67”.
An ecumenical service opened the first day, which was officiated by Rev. Hilario Tabangin, followed by floral opening at the Founders’ statue by the immediate kin, Board of Directors and Deans and Department Heads. Afterwards, were the raising of balloons, the hoisting of banners and the opening of the Department booths.
Students refreshed themselves as they participated in the musical, dance, academic and literary contests and presentations such as the field demo made colorful by the participants from the elementary and high school departments, the quiz bowl won for three years in a row by the College of Education and the official opening of the different ball games. The evening affair was highlighted by a play production from the College and Liberal Arts entitled “Gamugamo sa Kanto ng East Avenue”.
The morning of September 17 shifted the tempo of the celebration as the Cheerdancing Competition burst into action at the gymnasium. The High School department again won the competition.
Later part in the afternoon, faculty, administration officials and students alike converged at the gymnasium for the biggest game of the day-the Bingo Socials, hosted by Mr., Abraham Guingab, Student Affairs Director, with whooping prizes at stake.
The evening affair was made exciting by the Search for Mr. NC 2008 won this year by the College of Midwifery with Gabriel Angelo Vizcarra being crowned.
The SSC also spearheaded the Laro ng Lahi on the third day, September 18, where games such as the buko raley, piglet catching, “Basagan ng Banga” and sack race were condected. Afterwards, the Pop Dance Contest was held at the gymnasium won by the HRM students.
The celebration would not be complete without the annual Search for Ms. NC 2008 which was dominated by the College of Liberal Arts this year thru Marjorie Baldonado.
A grand parade ensued in the morning of September 19 attended by the students of the school, school officials and onlookers along Santiago City poblacion roads. The students later gathered at the NC Grounds for the fire drill facilitated by some officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Santiago City and the students of Disaster Relief and Rescue Brigade.
Meanwhile, the SSC held the debate championship in the afternoon won by the ACAS department, Simultaneous with the debate finals was the Battle of the Bands dominated by the College of Education.
A medical-dental mission was organized on the last day, September 20 at San Miguel, Ramon Isabela.
