ELEMENTARY
The Elementary Department last year has shown impressive performances in the field of sports and scouting. Winning several titles has placed the department in the limelight. Among the titles won are: championship in taekwondo during the 10th BSP Camp-Oral 2008 at Balintocatoc, Santiago City and another championship in the District meet and Division Palaro 2008. Meanwhile, a 12-year old pupil nearly orbited chess grand mastery as he again garnered the championship title in the district and division categories.
International School Basketball Tournament Elementary Category also awarded the 1st runner-up to NC-Elementary.
In the field of academics, the department has shown meritorious performances by gratifying in the math challenge elimination of the 2009 Metro Bank – MTAP.
HIGH SCHOOL
Northeastern College High School Department excelled and bagged a bid – bang of award on separate competitions which proved that nothing could hinder them from success in times of determination.
The NCHS Student Supreme Government (SSG) showed up on the National Leadership Training at Baguio City, an annual activity joined by the school. On the field of sports, NC warriors was crowned as the 1strunner-up in the Inter –Secondary basketball competition and all the players of taekwondo, table tennis (Men’s and Women’s), Dance Sports and Gymnastics, meanwhile, were qualified for CAVRAA. In terms of academic competitions, Metro Bank Challenge picked the First year forward to the division finals as they ranked 6th place. Meanwhile, the Drum and Lyre Corporations was adjudged as the most outstanding Youth Group in Santiago City. The NCHS Boy Scouts bagged the over-all championship last City Encampment 2008 while GSP (Girl Scout of the Philippine), cheer dance group, Kamalayan Dance Troupe also grabbed different minor titles in their field.
ACAS
The College of Commerce and Accountancy has set and beefed up its plan in response to the thrust to provide quality education and to prepare the students to become globally competitive.
Last October 2008, the college faculty attended the seminar at LUP which aimed to update the instructors in innovative and revolutionary learning styles: innovation in instruction and research, construction of instructional materials, teaching strategies and providing the students with significant enrichment activities through co-and extra curricular activities.
Recently, the Young Entrepreneurs Association conducted a seminar for the commerce students held at Country Farm Resort, Santiago City. The seminar was held to equip the students with adequate information on entrepreneurial marketing as a tool in business success. Meanwhile, management students attended the regional BMAP convention held at Saint Louis University – Tuguegarao wherein two management students shined in the Regional Management Quiz Bee in the champion and Melody Cadiente having grabbed the second place. Also the Junior Philippines Institute of Accountants – NC Chapter conducted its annual convention and hosted the Regional Federation of Junior Philippines Institute of Accountants Conference.
This coming February 18 and 19, commerce students are going for a fieldtrip at Universal Robina, Manila, Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Umagang Kay Ganda ABS-CBN aiming to familiarize the students with advertising, marketing and total quality managements.
Dr. Clemente P. Claro, the College Dean is currently observing one-on-one the faculty instructors in their classes. This is to facilitate whether instructors are conforming to instructional procedures.
HRM
Bringing on-job-trainees to Singapore and other countries open for OJTs is just one of the plans that came into realization as Northeastern College dreamt to provide the most efficient hotel and restaurant management.
Aiming to establish a studentry of high competitiveness, disciplines and of healthy wit, NC also introduced Hotel Familiarization in Baguio City and Manila where students could learn the essence of hospitality. NC also offered HRM mixing cake decorating and table skirting. The HRM might also gives spark to the whole studentry as part of its fair i8n which everybody are taught that a manager has to be presentable, in proper gesture and attitude.
COMSEC
The College of Computer Secretarial Students attended the 5th PASOA (Philippine Association of Students in Office Administration) National Convention which was participated by the different schools throughout the country held at the Alumni Auditorium of De La Salle University, Dasmariñas, Cavite last November 28, 2008.
The Convention revolved on the theme, “The S-Factors of Successful Office Professionals”, where different topics were discussed to empower the students in the secretarial field and further enhance their skills in typing, Stenography or Shorthand Writing, Quiz Bee and Corporate Fashion.
Prior to the National Convention, the College of Computer Secretarial also attended the 8th PASOA Regional Convention held at the Balai Gloria, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya last October 4, 2008.
EDUCATION
In lieu of the former Dean, Mr. Joel Meniado who left the country for abroad, Mrs. Brenda S. Bañaga sat as the OIC Dean, now ably manning the usual operations and routines within the Department’s performance in various fields of endeavor.
Senior Education students who qualified for the Practice Teaching program were sent to different elementary and secondary schools in the city acquaint themselves to the real daily classroom setting at the same time, widen their horizons towards effective and efficient teaching.
Meanwhile, the third year students went to upgrade their teaching skills and styles in a seminar sponsored by the Philippine Normal University – Alicia Campus and attended by the different colleges and universities in Region 2. Participants from NC made up the biggest number of attendees.
NURSING
Dean Rachel Jacla together with some Nursing students attended the ADPCN Congress and the Student Nurses Convention held last October 15-16, 2008. The confab aimed to immerse the student nurses on the new trends and modes in pediatric, orthopedic, maternal, and mental nursing. Fourth year BSN students had also gone to a training cum seminar sponsored by the Red Cross last October 21-23.
Meanwhile, the College conducted the Level III and Level IV Grand Case Competition where the BSN 3A wont the Level III title and the BSN 4B for the Level 4. As a tradition, the College also had its retreat attended by the Faculty and staff of the College.
AB
Liberal Arts students have been making noise these days with their reprogrammed radio talk show dubbed as Tinig NC’nian: Tinig Natin ‘to rocking the Valley’s airwaves. Accompanying the original segments come fresh new ones that prove to be sure fire hits among their loyal listeners.
Meanwhile, the College had some of its students sent to different media outfits and agencies in Baguio City, working as scribes to local publications and serving as members of the production stag for a regional TV network.
CRIM
NC Police Interns were deployed to the different bureaus and agencies of the government such as the Bureau of Fire Protection, PNP Santiago City and the Bureau of Jail Management and penology to observe facilities, traditions and duties. Likewise, the police interns served as peace and order aides to the different co-curricular undertaking of the school. They were also part of the Fire Drill held in the school with the some officers from the BFP.
IT
The Information Technology Department opened a newly renovated simulation room and faculty area. IT students also were provided additional laboratory for troubleshooting, networking and other hands-on tasks.
Recently, a faculty rewarded was put into policy to encourage its instructors to develop innovative teaching and learning techniques through the use of up-to-date technological aides.
GE
The College of Engineering continues to prove its image as an excellent producer of board passers in the country with the released results of the recent GE Board Examination.
The Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 135 out of 386 examinees passed the exam. Included In the passers were NC’nians named Benjamin Mauricio, Estafanio Melo Jr., Roger Mindoro and Dennis Santiago.
