Five NCnians hurdle CPA board exam
Hard work has paid off for the five NCnians after passing the recent Certified Public Accountant’s Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) sometime lat October, 2008.
Gilbert Pelayo, Dexter Gapusan, Marjocris Aquino, Christina Laylay and Alexis Bermisa are the newly registered certified public accountants. NC registered a 24 percent passing rate. In an interview with The Intelligencer, Gapusan expressed, “My education at NC has prepared me to take and pass the exam. The examination was really tough plus the fact that there were so many of us who took it.” Gapusan, along with Aquino were first time takers.
For the previous school year, Jennilyn Olimon and Carlos Arandia Jr., two of four who rook the board exam are marked Certified Public Accountants along with the hundreds who passed. NC achieved a passing rate of 50 percent over the national passing rate of 27 percent.
According to Dr. Clemente Claro, Dean of the College of Commerce and Accountancy, serious preparations are now being done within the college. The potential takers, before being fielded to the exam, are primed for further learning that includes mentoring either inside the classroom or review courses under a local board review center.
“Actually, review courses are now part of the curriculum, so still, whether students take a formal review they are always ready and tuned up for the actual exam”, said Dean Claro.
On a more positive note, Gilbert Pelayo has been hired by the school to serve as a full-time instructor for the College of Commerce and Accountancy, teaching higher accounting subjects.
