NC library updates services
To cater the growing needs of the increasing NC’nian populace, the Northeastern College Library has ventured into updating its services effective this first semester of S.Y. 2008-2009.
The library has created its strategic plan in retooling its services vis-à-vis high standards, subscribing to innovations to give the students quality materials and library functions.
Such services are the reengineered cataloging and abstracting of library papers, accessible and speedier Internet browsing and the acquisition of the updated editions of books and other reading materials.
The month of July had seen the acquisition of 523 books with varied titles for the Criminology, Education, Geodetic Engineering, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Commerce, Nursing, Information Technology and Accountancy. In addition, there were also 4 national yearbooks, 2 almanacs and 1 Guinness book of world records, 2008 edition purchased.
“With the improved administrative library functions, we assure the students of a more comprehensive, extensive and accessible services”, said Franenicia Reconsal, Chief Librarian of the school.
Northeastern College, through its National Service Training Program (NSTP) joined the 3rd Go Negosyo Teen Edition in Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City spearheaded by the Department of Education held last July 26-31, 2008.
NC, sent its NSPT leaders namely: Marjorie Maraña, Jamaica Pascual, Zheratal Jumat, Rosemelita Bastian, Jonalyn Dela Fuente, Dianne Mae Andaya, Jinky Africano, Lea Angelique Cuizon, Krishelle Crisostomo, and Junah Salvador to the convention that drew in some 3,000 teachers and students nationwide.
In a statement, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said that the annual event is in line with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s 10 point agenda in business and entrepreneurship among the students.
”Many of our students show a lot of potential in entrepreneurship and training support like this will equip them with tools to pursue their own business’, said Lapus.
Go Negosyo Teen Edition thru DepEd, with the involvement of the Philippine Center for Entrpreneurship, Office of the presidential Consultant on Entrepreneurship, Department of Trade and Industry-Philippine Trade Training Center, The Master’s Lighthouse Foundation and entrepreneurs School of Asia, invited elementary, secondary, and tertiary level students nationwide, as well as educators in an effort to promote entrepreneurial expertise among them.
Speakers for the week-long conference include Joey Concepcion III, Presidential Consultant on Entreprenuership, Rep. Teofisto Guingona III, Francis Pangilinan, Francis Bong “Bo” Sanchez and celebrity entrepreneurs Marvin Agustin of Sumo Sam and Dominic Ochoa of Thumbs Up.
Celebrities Kitchie Nadal, Bamboo and Sam Concepcion who are also DepEd spokespersons provided support and entertainment with TV host Edu Manzano who conducted a dance show.
Joey G. Pelaez, Executive Director of the Center for the Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (CSCA) stressed, “One is never too young to give birth to an idea and pursue through hard work.”
